Passion for Oineas winery-Kalavrita

In life some things happen by chance, actually some may argue that we are guided towards these chances in life. These moments where you find yourself in a certain place at a certain time, for a reason. The best word to describe it would be “serendipity” which means a “happy accident” or a “pleasant surprise”, the accident of finding something good without actually looking for it. This post is not about the greater meaning of “serendipity” as shown in the movie with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale but it is about a winery that we discovered by chance in Kalavrita. A small place, with great lighting and ambience and most importantly an extensive wine list and impeccable service. We were greeted by Emmanuil whose passion for wine speaks louder than words, and his warm hospitality made us want to go back the following night. Emmanuil is a sommelier at heart, a man who is dedicated to his profession and shares this passion for wine with others. We instantly felt that we made a friend in Kalavrita, so the second night round after a full day spent at the slopes followed by a delicious meal we visited a few local bars only to realize that we had to go back to Oineas winery where a Carnival party was taking place and the crowd was enjoying the sounds of a live band. Emmanuil, greeted us with the same warm smile and in a matter of seconds prepared our table so that we would feel most welcome, and back at home!
