Passion for Sunset at the Temple of Poseidon - Cape Sounion

If you ever find yourself visiting Athens, you must definitely add a visit to the Cape Sounion on your “To do List”. The best time would be to visit this place just before sunset so that you can witness this magical experience. Go there at around 19:30 pm if you are visiting in the summer. If you are into mythology this is the legendary place where Aegeus, king of Athens, fell into the sea when he thought that his son Theseus was defeated by the Minotaur, the legendary monster that lived in the palace of Knossos on the island of Crete. Theseus had travelled to Crete to kill the Minotaur and his father had instructed him that if he was successful in the defeat he thus would hoist a white sail on his return home. Upon his return he forgot to change the sails thus returning with the black one. His father seeing the black sails and thinking that his son is dead, fell into the sea and drowned. The Athenians named this the Aegean Sea. Greece is famous for its mythology, come and experience it for yourselves. Until next time. xoxo ES
